ADOPTION
The rules and regulations below are interim until formally adopted by the Woodinville Cemetery Association Board of Directors.
GLOSSARY
The Woodinville Memorial Mead (aka Woodinville Cemetery) is 2 acres of land donated by Ira and Susan Woodin from their homestead for the burial of local residents.
The Woodinville Cemetery Association is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation governed by a board of 12 volunteers.
PURPOSE
These rules are intended to:
- Honor the dead.
- Protect graves and markers.
- Give the cemetery grounds a neat appearance.
- Facilitate grounds maintenance.
- Provide a safe place for visitors.
BEHAVIOR
All persons visiting the cemetery are expected to honor the dead with appropriate behavior:
- Parents are responsible for the behavior of their children; children shall not run or play in the cemetery.
- Pets are prohibited in the cemetery.
- Please do not litter; use the garbage cans at both ends of the cemetery.
- Please pick up a piece or two of litter and dispose of it.
- Do not remove flowers or vegetation.
- Do not disturb or vandalize graves or markers.
- Loitering in the cemetery is prohibited.
GRAVES
The following rules apply to graves:
- Only human remains may be buried.
- The Woodinville Cemetery is reserved for persons with some connection to the Woodinville area.
- Plot owners may not sell their plot to the public; plots must be sold back to the cemetery at the price paid for the plot.
- It is the responsibility of the plot owner (or descendants) to provide the Woodinville Cemetery Association the name and address of the current plot owner / administrator.
- Plot owners may designate the family member or friend who will use the plot.
- A descendant of a plot owner without a deed of ownership will be granted use rights only if they can produce written proof that no other family members have interest in that plot.
- If a plot has been paid for, but not used within 50 years of purchase, or if the cemetery has not been contacted in the past 50 years, the cemetery reserves the right to re-sell that plot.
- The cemetery has the right to re-assign plot location if unrecorded evidence is found of a previous pioneer burial in that location.
- Burials must be processed through a funeral home. Any funeral home may use the Woodinville Cemetery.
- A plot must be paid for before use. The cemetery does not finance purchases.
- Opening and closing of a grave is to be paid for before use; cost is determined by the Board of Directors.
- All burials must be marked with a permanent marker, paid for the plot owner, within six months of the burial. The monument maker shall place the marker.
- Casket burials shall be in concrete liners sold by a funeral home.
- One plot may be used for one casket burial or four cremation burials. Cremation burials shall not be made on top of casket burials.
- Arrangements for a burial must be made through a funeral home at least three days before interment so that the ground can be prepared.
- Permission for exhuming interments will be in accordance with RCW 68.50
- A grave marker may be above the ground, or flush to the ground, but not larger than its plot size. If placed above the ground surface, it must be not less than six inches high to avoid mower damage.
- Structures, flowers beds, shrubs, hedges, trees, rocks, gravel, and enclosures are prohibited.
- Flowers and decorations are allowed, but will be disposed of at the next lawn mowing.
AUTHORITY
Only the cemetery's Board of Directors has the authority to:
- Authorize the performance of, and contract for, maintenance of grounds and graves.
- Authorize the performance of, and contract for, improvements to grounds and graves.
- Authorize the performance of, and contract for, opening and closing of graves. Plot owners are not authorized to open or close any grave.
- Authorize the setting of grave markers. Only authorized monumnent makers can set markers.
